Video dermoscopy
Patients at our practice can take advantage of digital photo documentation and analysis of moles and other skin lesions. The system we use allows images to be further analysed on high-resolution retina displays and compared with previous images with the support of "artificial intelligence".
Haemangiomas
Haemangiomas only need to be treated if they are particularly large or in unfavourable locations in order to avoid possible complications such as bleeding or scarring. In these cases, treatment with medication - so-called beta-blockers - is usually recommended locally or even systemically. If oral therapy with beta-blockers is indicated, we recommend an admission to the inpatient paediatric department of the Immanuel Klinikum Herzzentrum Bernau.
Atopic dermatitis
This condition is one of the most common reasons for consultations for skin problems in Paediatrics. Lack of sleep, restlessness and itching are a burden on the everyday lives of children and their families and can have a significant impact on their quality of life. Therapy with the monoclonal antibody Dupilumab® is authorised for particularly severe forms of the disease from the age of 6.
Pigment disorders
White, sharply defined patches on the skin can be an indication of vitiligo. This autoimmune skin disease can already occur in childhood and must be differentiated from other skin diseases, such as fungal infections. In the event of clinical suspect, a detailed examination of the thyroid gland is recommended. In addition to topical therapies, medical cosmetics can provide valuable support for affected patients.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis can also occur in childhood. Differentiating it from atopic dermatitis often requires time and experience. A special type of psoriasis is the "guttata" variant, which occurs in connection with streptococcal infections. In this case, targeted pathogen diagnostics can be a curative therapeutic approach.
Hair diseases
Hair disorders can also occur in childhood and cause considerable suffering for the patients affected. In addition to a blood test of the inflammation values, iron and thyroid metabolism values, a light microscopic examination of the hair roots (trichogram) may be necessary to provide the correct diagnosis and therapy.
Skin infections
Both systemic and localised infections can cause specific skin rashes in children. We offer microbiological and serological diagnostics in our practice. In the case of fungal skin diseases, the use of reflected light microscopy with a Wood-lamp can often enable a visual diagnosis.
